Labour Standards. Hah!

Okay, so a post or two ago I mentioned that Christian complains about his job. He's winning me over, because yeah, he seems to be getting the shaft an awful lot at work these days. The funny thing is, his employer isn't doing a thing wrong from a strictly legal sense. And we have Nova Scotia's archaic labour laws to thank for this. Minimum wage: $6.50 an hour. Breaks (coffee and lunch) are at the employer's discretion--there's no provision for them in the standard. No definition for what constitutes "full-time" hours. You have to work a whopping 48 hours before you get into overtime territory. Nice. I'm off to count my blessings now. (Number one: cushy government job.)
